The Learning Starts at Home Parent Workshop
Research has found that helping parents to focus on specific developmental skills significantly increases child learning and enhances skills generalization. Empowering parents to take charge of their child's own development reduces strain on local services and boosts parent well-being. However, parent access to this type of training is limited to a few major universities in the US.
relate to autism is dedicated to bringing high-quality, research-based, parent training to families everywhere through group workshops, telephone support services and online home-program management tools.
Experts on autism agree on two things:
| • | children learn best through social interaction |
| • | parents can make the most powerful therapist for their children |
what you will learn
The Learning Starts at Home parent workshop will show you how to do all this and much more. We'll show you how to:| 1. | transform the power of your child’s interests into a passion for engaging and learning |
| 2. | recognize and use daily opportunities to accelerate your child’s development |
| 3. | be comfortable with your child in any situation |
| 4. | make helping your child to learn fun and energizing |
how you'll learn
Everyone learns best through experience. Sitting and listening to someone talk for two ways might make you think you learned what to do with your child but when you get home and try it you'll find it very challenging to apply what you heard. To really get it you have to [do it].For this reason we only offer workshops in conjunction with support services before and after the event. This gives you the chance to try some of our recommendations before the workshop so when you come you now exactly how you child is responding. This way you'll get the most out of the workshop as you'll already know what your questions are and where you need the most help. We'll also talk with you in detail after the workshop giving you the opportunity to fine-tune what you learned and make sure you didn't miss a single piece.
We also recognize that everyone has their own learning style. The two-day weekend workshop in designed to accommodate all types of learning styles and takes a multi-sensory approach to learning.
